02. Hope is Here // 12 The Cross - Tobi Ford-Western // Matthew 27:27-50

Summary:
The cross represents different things to different people, to some it symbolises Christianity, to others, crucifixion, and others Jesus Himself. While the cross displays many things, first and foremost it is a display of God's love for us.
In the beginning, God demonstrated His love for us by setting us apart from the rest of creation and making us rulers over the earth. He explained to Adam and Eve that they had a choice to either trust Him and receive his blessings, or to go their own way and receive curses. The decision that they made was to reject God and so they received the curses of thorns and thistles, pain in childbearing, and death.
In this week's passage we read about Jesus being dressed up as a pretend king and mocked. Notably, this is the accusation against us, we wanted to be king and have control over our lives, instead of God. But Jesus steps in as our representative and takes the charges against us. He receives our accusations and condemnation.
We read that He has a scarlet robe put on his shoulders and a crown of thorns placed on His head. He takes the scarlet stain of sin and wraps it around Himself and He takes curse of thorns and thistles and wears it on His head. As Jesus is crucified He takes on another curse for us, bearing the marks of childbirth on His hands and feet as He brings forth children for God. Then finally He dies, experiencing physical and spiritual death and separation from God, bearing our full punishment.
Jesus has died for your sin and it’s time for you to give your life to Him.

Application:
Let God have control in your life.
When you see the sacrificial service of Jesus, follow His example and serve others.
Jesus gave His life for you, now give your life to Him.
